Amelie

Amelie - 2001 Directed by - Jean-Pierre Jeunet Written by - Jean-Pierre Jeunet & Guillaume Laurant Starring - Audrey Tautou & Mathieu Kassovitz Amelie is a French film starring Audrey Tautou as the title character. Amelie is a woman who uses her creative imagination to cure her case of loneliness. When she was young her mother died and had a distant relationship with her father. Amelie grew up feeling alone and on her own, finding happiness in the most simple things in life. On August 31st 1997, the day of Princess Diana's death, Amelie is shocked by the news of the royal icons tragic demise. Stunned by the news she drops a bottle cap that rolls into her bathroom, hitting a loose tile on the wall and revealing a small tunnel. In the hole Amelie finds a tin box filled with nostalgic memorabilia hidden from a man who lived in her home years earlier. Amelie sets out to find the man who left it there and return the items to him. After the adventure Amelie has with seeking out to anonymously returning the mans items, she sets out to start finding ways to do good deeds for everyone in her own creative imaginative ways just to make others happy. The film was made in 2000-2001, set in 1997 and released in 2001. Now over 10 years later the film still feels as modern as it was when released. Back in 2001 when being made, it also didn't seem as far off from its 1997 dating. Theres not a lot of examples that show the films true date which helps it stay relevant in present time.
